On November 26, 2024, the School of Computer Science and Information Engineering held the first seminar on the construction of its General Education Course on Artificial Intelligence. This initiative aims to cultivate application-oriented talents who can meet the demands of the AI era.
The leadership team of the course consists of School Party Secretary NIAN Yongqi and Dean HONG Richang as co-leaders, with Vice Dean of Teaching XIA Na and Director of the Intelligent Science Department JIA Wei serving as deputy leaders. The team also includes eight senior faculty members from the AI field within the school.
During the meeting, Dean Hong introduced the preliminary preparations, including research on the course's background, positioning, teaching staff, and team development, which laid a strong foundation for the successful launch of the course. He emphasized the need for the leadership team to collaborate on top-level design and develop an "AI Gold Course" that showcases the distinctive features and brand of the university.
Members of the team discussed the curriculum design, course objectives, content modules, course features, teaching staff structure, and the development of teaching resources. They refined the course's basic framework, set up the course team, and outlined the division of labor and the next steps in the development process.
Incorporating artificial intelligence into the general education curriculum is a necessary step. It also meets national talent needs and aims to train qualified builders and successors for the socialist cause in the new era. The school will continue to explore ways to develop an AI curriculum with the university's unique characteristics, guiding students to use AI to enhance their career development and become practitioners empowered by artificial intelligence.
