On the morning of December 2, 2024, Dr. Bao Jie, an outstanding alumnus of our school, returned to his alma mater to give a lecture to the 2023 cohort of the Electronic Information Engineering program. The lecture, titled "From Machine Learning to Large Language Models," was part of the Frontier Lectures in Electronic Information series.

In his lecture, Dr. Bao shared insights from his personal academic journey and the evolving development of artificial intelligence. He encouraged students to actively engage in their learning, emphasizing the importance of mastering core subjects such as mathematics, physics, and foundational courses in their field. He highlighted that only by mastering these essential knowledge areas and fundamental principles could students keep pace with the rapid advancements in information technology and AI. Additionally, Dr. Bao stressed the importance of honing communication, collaboration, and practical skills, and he encouraged students to pursue success with passion, determination, and perseverance.

Dr. Bao Jie's Biography:

Dr. Bao Jie is the Chief Scientist at Wenyin Internet and earned his Ph.D. from Iowa State University. He has previously held positions as a postdoctoral researcher at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI), a visiting researcher at the Distributed Information Group (DIG) at MIT, and a researcher at Samsung's U.S. R&D Center. He was also a member of the W3C OWL (Web Ontology Language) Working Group and contributed to the development of the OWL2 knowledge graph language international standard. Dr. Bao is currently a member of the W3C Advisory Board, a member of the Chinese Information Processing Society's Language and Knowledge Computing Professional Committee, the Chair of the Financial Knowledge Graph Working Group, and one of the founders of the OpenKG Chinese Open Knowledge Graph Alliance. He is also on the editorial board of Data Intelligence, an international journal.

Dr. Bao Jie graduated in 1994 with a Bachelor's degree in Electronic Engineering and in 1998 with a Master's degree in Signal and Information Processing from our school, under the supervision of Professor Gao Jun.
